Course Outline

The planning tool for managing and tracking successful projects, MS Project(TM) enables effective project scheduling and monitoring whilst providing essential project management information including resource management, tracking critical paths and reporting. 

The course is scenario-based with participants working in the live environment to devleop the skills and expertise to effectively schedule and monitor a project.

Session 1: Creating a new project and entering in tasks

 

  1. Construct a new project plan
  2. Recognise specific project options
  3. Set up and apply calendars for your project
  4. Demonstrate how to enter and manipulate tasks
  5. Show how to insert and delete tasks
  6. Create a hyperlink
  7. Display summary tasks
  8. Show and hide tasks int he Gantt chart
  9. Enter in milestones and constraints
  10. Describe the differences between a soft and hard constraint
Session 2: Creating Relationships

 

  1. Create relationships between the tasks by linking them using the Link tool
  2. Create relationships using the Task Entry and sheet view
  3. Enter in delayed tasks
Session 3: Resourcing your Project

 

  1. Explain how to resource your project
  2. Explain the concepts of assigning resources
  3. Enter resources and amend individual calendars
  4. Demonstrate assigning resources using various methods
Session 4: Project Monitoring

 

  1. Describe what a baseline is
  2. Apply a baseline to your plan
  3. Display the critical path in your project plan
  4. Update actual progress for your tasks
  5. Demonstrate effects when amending tasks
  6. Track progress on your tasks
  7. Check project status

This project management course applies to people who are currently in a project management role or part of a team working on projects and aims to develop the skills and knowledge required of a modern-day project manager.
