Dear Customer,

Please note that this course "Business Process Modelling using UML" is being revised into our new 3-day course offering "Business Process Modelling Uncovered". From June 6, 2008, we will offer "Business Process Modelling Uncovered" as our premier BPM course. This revised course provides a reference to both BPMN (primary notation standard) and UML (secondary notation standard and lesser emphasis than BPMN), it will offer improved exercises and practical elements and will allow extended time for group discussion and problem solving. We also aim to include a brief contextual introduction to associated modelling standards such as domain and data modelling. Please visit revised course

Business Process Modelling Uncovered

Course Outline

Business projects are about business change and improvement. Understanding business processes at the beginning of a project and then improving those processes means the ultimate solution will not only be efficient and effective but meet the business needs of your organisation. With Business Process Modelling, projects become agents of change in the business not just automation of established practices.

The goals of Business Process Modelling are to:

  • Understand the organisation's current goals, strategies and business environment
  • Define the future business processes required to support these goals and strategies
  • Formulate an improvement proposal which defines how the organisation can transition to these future business processes
  • Provide a seamless path for the implementation of systems identified as part of the improvement proposal

The approach taken in this course is to first identify the organisation's Business Strategy. A model of the current business processes is then developed through a series of interviews and workshops. This model identifies the organisation's business events and key business processes. The current business processes are then analysed and decomposing into a series of process threads represented as BPMN Business Process Diagrams. The analysis is used to explore opportunities for improving the processes. A Target Business Model is then developed which acts as the business blueprint for organisational change. Improvement projects progressively transition the business to the Target Business Model.

Outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

Use the most advanced techniques and processes for modelling, improving and documenting your Business Processes. It uses the industry standard modelling technique BPMN (Business Process Modelling Notation) as the primary modelling notation.
